Error: "User name not found" when adding a student to Blackboard

As an instructor, you are unable to add a student to a course in Blackboard.

Before You Begin

Instructors are responsible for adding students to their classes in Blackboard. Occasionally, an instructor might be unable to add a particular student to Blackboard, as described below.

Problem

When attempting to enroll a student in a course in Blackboard, you receive the following error:

User name not found: <ulid>

You are unable to add the student to the course in Blackboard.

Solution

To resolve this error, the instructor should contact the Center for Teaching, Learning, & Technology (CTLT). A Blackboard system administrator will add the student to the Blackboard system so that he or she can be enrolled in the desired course.

When you contact CTLT, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Your name and  ULID
  • The name and ULID of the student you are trying to add to Blackboard
  • The course name and section number (i.e. ART101-01)

Important: Only instructors should contact CTLT to resolve this issue. If you are a student who is having a problem logging in to Blackboard, please contact the University Computer Help Desk at 309-438-4357 or helpdesk@ilstu.edu for assistance.
