Your name and courses are wrong in Blackboard

This article explains why both your name and courses in Blackboard might be incorrect.

Before You Begin

If your name is correct in Blackboard and only your course list is incorrect, the information in this article does not apply. Instead, refer to 1594: List of courses in Blackboard is wrong.

Problem

When you log in to Blackboard, you notice both of the following problems:

  • Your full name is wrong. Another person's name appears instead of yours.
  • Your course listing is wrong. You see courses that you have never taken.

Despite this issue, your ULID is correct and you are able to log in to Blackboard. Further, you may have courses listed which are correct in addition to courses that are incorrect.

Solution

These problems must be fixed by a Blackboard administrator. To resolve this issue, contact the University Computer Help Desk.

Please provide:

  • Your ULID.
  • Your name as it should appear in Blackboard.
  • Your name as it currently appears in Blackboard.
  • Any courses appearing in Blackboard which are not yours.
  • Any courses appearing in Blackboard which are yours.

The Help Desk will log your issue as an Incident and will forward it to the appropriate Blackboard administrator for resolution. The Blackboard administrators will update your name and fix your list of courses.

More Information

This problem is the result of an "inherited" ULID and is typically associated with student accounts in Blackboard. The most likely cause is that another student attended the University in the past and used to have your ULID. It is this person's name and courses you are seeing when you log in to Blackboard. This would not have prevented your instructor from adding you to your courses in Blackboard, but the end result is that you have a mix of courses that are yours and courses that are not.

For Instructors Only

If you are an instructor who is having problems with Blackboard, especially if you are having problems adding or removing students or courses in Blackboard, contact CTLT.
