Removing a shared calendar in Outlook and OWA

You can remove shared calendars from Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2011, and OWA. You can always add shared calendars back when you need them again.

Before You Begin

When you add shared calendars in Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2011, and Outlook Web App (OWA), they appear in a list of calendars on the left side of the window. You can display and hide these calendars by adding and removing a check mark from the box next to the calendar name.

Removing a Shared Calendar

If you want to remove a shared calendar from the list of calendars on the left side of your Outlook or OWA window, you can do so. This process is easy in Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, and OWA. However, in Outlook 2011, the only way to remove a shared calendar is by removing your Exchange account and then setting it back up again.

Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, and OWA

If you want to remove the shared calendar from from your list of calendars in Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, or OWA, do the following:

  1. Do one of the following:
  2. Click Calendar on the left side of the window.
  3. Right-click on the calendar you want to remove.
    • A pop-up menu appears.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • In Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2007, click Delete Calendar from the pop-up menu.
    • In OWA, click Remove Calendar from the pop-up menu.
  5. The calendar disappears from your list of calendars.
    • The calendar has not actually been deleted or removed from the Exchange server. It has only been removed from your list.
    • You can add the shared calendar back to your list of calendars at any time by following the instructions for opening a shared calendar. Refer to 1251: Opening a shared calendar in Outlook and OWA.

Outlook 2011

There is no easy way to remove a shared calendar from your list of calendars in Outlook 2011. To hide the calendar, you can remove the check mark next to the shared calendar's name. This just hides the calendar from your view, though. It does not remove it from the Shared Calendars list.

To remove a calendar from the Shared Calendars list in Outlook 2011, you must do the following:

  1. Remove your Exchange account from Outlook 2011.
  2. Add your Exchange account to Outlook 2011 again.
  3. Click Calendars on the left side of the Outlook 2011 window.
    • Notice that you no longer have a list of shared calendars.
  4. Add any shared calendars you need back to Outlook 2011, excluding the shared calendar you no longer want to see.
