Adding and removing members and owners on an email alias

This article explains how to add and remove members from your email alias after your email alias has been created.

Before You Begin

An email alias is an email address associated with one or more members. An email alias is not an email account; it does not have its own user name or password. Instead, email sent to an email alias address is delivered to the members of the alias.

Members, Owners, and Trustees

All email aliases have at least one owner and at least one member. Some email aliases also have trustees. If you are an owner of an email alias, you can add and remove members. If you are a trustee, you can add or remove owners.

Adding and Removing Members and Owners

These instructions explain how to add and remove members and owners associated with an email alias. To complete these instructions, you must be an owner or trustee of an email alias.

To manage the members of your email alias, do the following:

  1. Go to https://helpdesk.illinoisstate.edu/tools/aliasmanagement/.
  2. Click Email Alias Management.
  3. Log in using your ULID and password.
  4. A list of the email aliases for which you are an owner, member, or trustee is displayed.
  5. Click the name of the email alias that you wish to manage.
    • If you are an owner, you can add and remove members. To add a member, enter his or her ULID in the search box above Members on the right. Then click Add. To remove a member, click the red X to the right of member's entry.
    • If you are a trustee, you can add or remove owners as well as members. To add an owner, enter his or her ULID in the search box above Trustees & Owners. Then click Add. To remove an owner, click the red X to the right of the owner's entry.

Changes you make to members and owners take effect immediately.

Adding Email Members

It is also possible to add an email address as an email member for an email alias. You can use this option to add non-ULID and non-ilstu email addresses to an email alias.
