Managing the password for a ULID guest account

ULID guest accounts are temporary ULID accounts sponsored by faculty or staff members at Illinois State University.

Before You Begin

In most respects, a ULID guest account behaves just like any other ULID account. If the person who uses the ULID guest account has a problem with the password (i.e. the password is forgotten or not working properly), it can be reset.

Expired Password

The password for a ULID guest account expires every 60 days, just like a normal ULID password. You can change the password for a ULID guest account (even if it is expired) by logging in to ULID Account Management on the University Computer Help Desk website.

Account Recovery

If the person using the ULID guest account has forgotten the password or is unable to change it, he or she can recover the account. The account sponsor might also be able to recover the account.

This process requires the guest account user or sponsor to provide information about the ULID guest account and to correctly answer one of the account's security questions. Answers to the account's security questions were created when the account was activated.

Password Reset

The password for a ULID guest account can also be reset administratively. However, due to the nature of ULID guest accounts, the process for resetting the password for a ULID guest account is different from the procedure for resetting the password for a ULID account.

To have the password for a ULID guest account reset, the faculty/staff sponsor of the ULID guest account (not the guest user) should do the following:

  • Contact the Computer Infrastructure Support Services (CISS) main office at 309-438-8800.
  • Ask to speak with the CIS Director or Associate Director.
  • Explain that you are the sponsor of a ULID guest account and need the password reset.

The CIS main office will handle the password reset.
