Configuring LDAP Directory Service Lookup in Address Book in Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7

Configure Address Book to use the University's LDAP electronic people directory.

Before You Begin

Configure the Mac OS X Address Book to use the University's LDAP people directory. You can then use Address Book to search for people at Illinois State University. These instructions are for Mac OS X 10.6 and Mac OS X 10.7.

Configure LDAP in Address Book

To configure Address Book to use Illinois State's LDAP Directory Service settings, do the following:

  1. Open Address Book. It is located in the Dock or in the Applications folder on the hard drive.
  2. Click Address Book > Preferences…
  3. Click the Accounts tab.
  4. Click the + (plus) button.
  5. Select LDAP under the Account type: drop down menu.
  6. Enter dspublic.ilstu.edu in the Server address: field. Click Continue.
  7. Enter the following information:
    • Description: ISU LDAP
    • Search Base: ou=People, o=IllinoisState, dc=ILSTU, dc=EDU
    • Click Create to save your settings.

Address Book is now configured to search the University’s LDAP server.
