Importing to personal blog from WordPress, LiveJournal, or Blogger
After being exported to an XML file, content from several blogging sites can be imported to your personal blog.
Before You Begin
Illinois State University blog accounts run on WordPress, a popular blogging platform. Once a blog is exported to an XML (Extensible Markup Language) file, the blog can be imported to another blogging site.
These instructions explain how to import content to your personal blog from WordPress, Blogger, and LiveJournal. Note that only blog posts, comments, and users will be imported from Blogger, and only blog posts will be imported from LiveJournal.
Importing Content To Your Blog
To import an XML file to your University blog, do the following:
- Go to http://my.ilstu.edu.
- Log in to your blog with your ULID and password.
- Click Import on the left side of the page under Tools.
- Proceed by referring to the appropriate section below.
Import from WordPress
If you are importing an XML file from WordPress, do the following:
- Click WordPress.
- Click Browse and locate the WordPress XML file you would like to import .
- After selecting the appropriate file, click Upload file and import.
- Along with importing posts, you can also choose to import file attachments by putting a check mark in the Download and import file attachments box.
- Click Submit.
Import from Blogger
If you are importing an XML file from Blogger, do the following:
- Click Blogger.
- To continue, you must grant authorization to Blogger so WordPress can access your account information. Click Authorize.
- Click Grant Access to continue. If you are not already logged in to your Google Account, you will be prompted to log in before clicking Grant Access.
- After authorizing your Blogger account, click Import on the right side under The Magic Button.
- When the upload bar has turned completely blue, click Set Authors.
- All of the posts have been imported under your user name. If your blog has several users, you have the option of mapping those users to different blog posts.
- When you are finished, click Save Changes.
Import from LiveJournal
If you are importing an XML file from LiveJournal or an XML file from an RSS feed, do the following:
- Click LiveJournal or RSS, depending on the file you exported.
- Click Browse and locate the LiveJournal or RSS XML file you would like to import .
- After selecting the appropriate file, click Upload file and import.
