Adding a user as an administrator, editor, author, etc. to your personal blog

Adding a user to your personal blog allows you to grant that person permission to make changes and add new posts to your personal blog.

Before You Begin

It is possible to give another member of Illinois State University access to update your personal blog. You have the option of adding people as administrators, editors, contributors, authors, and subscribers.

When you add someone to your personal blog, that person can make changes to your blog. That person can make new posts to your blog and can make other changes as well. The level of control someone has over your blog is based on the user role you assign to that person.

User Roles

There are five types of user roles you can assign:

  • Administrator - Full control over your blog
  • Editor - Publish and manage all posts on your blog
  • Author - Publish and manage their own posts
  • Contributor - Write and manage their own posts (but need you to publish posts)
  • Subscriber - Read comments and posts

These roles grant varying levels of privileges with administrator offering the most privileges and subscriber offering the least.  We recommend you grant roles based on the type of assistance you expect from those you are adding to your blog.

Adding a User to Your Personal Blog

To add an administrator or editor to your blog account, do the following:

  1. Go to http://my.ilstu.edu.
  2. Log in to your personal blog with your ULID and password.
  3. Under Users on the left, click Add User.
    • You may need to click Users to expand that panel so you can see the Add User option.
  4. Type the ULID of the person that you would like to add in the Username: box.
  5. Click the Role: menu and select the role you wish to assign to this person.
  6. Click Add User.
    • If the ULID you typed is not found, you may be prompted to create a local user. Do not create local users on your personal blog. Local users cannot log in to your blog and will be unusable to you. If you created a local user, you can delete it by following the instructions below.

The person you added now has permission to make changes to your personal blog.
