How to launch Network Connect in Mac OS X without visiting the WebVPN website

Use Network Connect in WebVPN to establish a VPN connection for your entire computer.

Before You Begin

To install the Network Connect VPN client, visit the WebVPN website, as described in 1322: Connecting with the Network Connect WebVPN client.

After you install and run Network Connect once, it is available in your Applications folder on your Macintosh hard drive. After configuring the installed version of Network Connect, you can launch it without visiting the WebVPN website.

Configure Network Connect in Mac OS X

The first time you launch Network Connect from your Macintosh hard drive, you must configure it with the WebVPN web address. After you configure it once, Network Connect will remember the WebVPN web address.

To configure Network Connect in Mac OS X, do the following:

  1. Double-click Macintosh HD > Applications.
  2. Double-click Network Connect.
  3. Enter https://webvpn.ilstu.edu/ in the field labeled Sign in at: and press Return.
    • Network Connect will connect to the WebVPN server and will then display a login window.
  4. Enter your ULID and password.
  5. Click Sign In.
  6. When Network Connect has successfully connected, the window will display connection information.
After connecting with Network Connect, you can access restricted resources at Illinois State University that require a VPN connection.

Launch Network Connect in Mac OS X

To launch Network Connect after configuring it, do the following:

  1. Double-click Macintosh HD > Applications.
  2. Double-click Network Connect.
  3. Scroll down to locate the login area.
  4. Enter your ULID and password.
  5. Click Sign In.
  6. When Network Connect has successfully connected, the window will display connection information.
After connecting with Network Connect, you can access restricted resources at Illinois State University that require a VPN connection.
