Error: "Updates were not applied because packages were not in the repository"

When updating McAfee VirusScan 8.7i, you receive an error message that leads you to believe the update failed.

Problem

When you update the virus definitions (DAT file) for McAfee VirusScan 8.7i, see the following error message:

ERROR: Updates were not applied because packages were not in the repository: VSCANCEU1000, EXTRADAT1000, BOCVSE__1000, VIRUSCAN

Solution

You may safely ignore this error. It does not indicate that virus definitions (DAT file) failed to update.

More Information

According to McAfee, this message does not mean that VirusScan failed to update, but just that the three specific updates (VSCANCEU1000, EXTRADAT1000, and BOCVSE__1000) are not found or applied. This is normal.

The other update messages you see when performing a virus definition (DAT) update indicate that VirusScan was updated successfully.
