Automatically configuring "isu-resnet" on Windows 7 using "setup-isu-resnet"

Connect to the "setup-isu-resnet" wireless network to automatically configure your Windows 7 computer for "isu-resnet."

Before You Begin

These instructions are for Windows 7 computers. Follow these instructions to automatically configure your computer for access to "isu-resnet" wireless.

To complete these instructions, you must be in a location where "setup-isu-resnet" and "isu-resnet" are available. For more information on the availability of "isu-resnet," refer to 1187: Overview of wireless access at Illinois State University.

Following these instructions will automatically configure your computer to use WPA2/AES with MS-PEAP. The Entrust security certificates needed for "isu-resnet" will also be automatically downloaded and installed on your computer.

Simple Instructions

Automatically configuring your Windows 7 computer for "isu-resnet" wireless access is easy. These simple instructions give you the basics. Detailed instructions are available below in case you need them.

  1. Connect to "setup-isu-resnet" on your Windows 7 computer.
  2. Open a web browser, like Firefox or Internet Explorer.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Your computer will be automatically configured for "isu-resnet" wireless access. When the configuration is done, you will automatically be switched over to the "isu-resnet" wireless network.

Detailed Instructions

To automatically configure your computer to connect to "isu-resnet," connect to "setup-isu-resnet" first. Do the following:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click View network status and tasks underneath Network and Internet.
    • Click Network and Sharing Center.
  3. Click Connect to a network. A window with a list of wireless networks will appear.
  4. Select setup-isu-resnet and click Connect.
    • Do not put a check mark in the box labeled Connect Automatically.
  5. A window that says, Select a location for 'setup-isu-resnet' network, will appear. Choose Work network. Then click Close.
  6. Launch a web browser, such as Firefox or Internet Explorer. You will automatically be taken to the XpressConnect web page.
    • If you are not automatically taken to the XpressConnect web page, try browsing to an off-campus website like http://www.google.com. You should be redirected to the XpressConnect web page.
  7. Put a check mark in the box labeled I accept the terms of the End-User License Agreement.
  8. Click Start.
  9. XpressConnect will open a new window which will be used to automatically configure your computer for "isu-resnet" wireless.
  10. Click Continue.
  11. Enter your ULID and password.
  12. Click Continue.
  13. If you have not yet completed ResNet registration, you may see a message that says, Additional Software Is Required. The Cisco Network Access Control (NAC) agent is required to access ResNet (both wired and wireless). Click Install to install the Cisco NAC agent. (This message appears only if you do not yet have the Cisco NAC agent installed.) When the Cisco NAC agent finishes installing, click Continue on the XpressConnect window.
  14. XpressConnect will automatically configure your computer and switch it over to the "isu-resnet" wireless network.
  15. At the end of the process, the Cisco NAC agent will launch and prompt you to log in. Enter your ULID and password when prompted to do so. The Cisco NAC agent will inspect your computer to determine if it meets conditions of access. You may be prompted to make additional changes to your computer based on ResNet registration requirements.   16. A window that says, Select a location for 'isu-resnet' network, will appear. Choose Work network. Then click Close.
