What is my disk quota for my personal blog?

Your disk quota tells you how much disk space you have on the personal blogs server.

Your Disk Quota for Your Personal Blog

Students, faculty, staff, and retirees are each allotted 50MB of disk space on the personal blog server. This limit is known as your personal blogs disk quota.

Additionally, no individual file larger than 2MB can be uploaded to the personal blog server. This is known as the maximum upload file size.

Check Your Disk Usage

To find out how much disk space you are using for your personal blog, do the following:

  1. Go to http://my.ilstu.edu/.
  2. Click Login to My Blog.
  3. Enter your ULID and password, and click Login.
  4. The amount of space you are using is displayed under Storage Space.
    • The total amount of space you have been granted (50MB) is shown on the left.
    • Your current usage is shown on the right.
  5. Click either your total (50MB) or your current usage to see a list of files you've uploaded to the blogs server.

Exceeding the Maximum Upload File Size

If you attempt to upload a file that is larger than the maximum upload file size (2MB), the following error is displayed:

This file is too big. Your php.ini upload_max_filesize is 2M.

If you receive this error, it means the file you are trying to upload is too big. Video files can easily be over 2MB in size and pictures taken on a digital camera are often larger than 2MB. If you have an image that you want to upload but cannot because it is too large, you can edit the picture file and reduce its file size.

Exceeding Your Disk Quota

You cannot exceed your disk quota for your personal blog. If you try to upload a file that would put you over your limit (50MB), the following error is displayed:

HTTP error.

An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.

If you receive this error, it means you have used all (or nearly all) of your disk space on the personal blog server. You can delete files from the personal blog server to create more space for new files. For more information, refer to 1522: How to delete files from your personal blog.
