Opening firewall ports for McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator

To use McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), you must open several firewall ports. Failure to do so may prevent you from using ePO.

Firewall Ports

To use McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), the following network ports must be opened in your firewall software:

  • 8081 TCP
  • 8081 UDP
  • 8082 TCP
  • 8082 UDP
  • 8444 TCP
  • 8444 UDP

When you install McAfee ePO, it does not automatically opens these ports in the Windows firewall (or in any other firewall software). You must manually open these ports.

Opening Windows Firewall Ports

To open the necessary ports in the Windows firewall, do the following:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows XP, click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Windows Firewall.
    • In Windows XP, click Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall.
    • In Windows Vista, click Start > Control Panel > Allow a program through Windows Firewall.
    • In Windows Vista, click Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Change Settings.
  2. Click the Exceptions tab.
  3. Click Add Port…
  4. In the Name: box, type ePO-(port #)-TCP or ePO-(port #)-UDP, depending on whether you are adding a TCP port or a UDP port.
    • Example: ePO-8081-UDP
    • Example: ePO-8081-TCP
  5. In the Port number: box, type the port number you are adding.
    • Example: 8081
  6. Select UDP or TCP, as appropriate.
  7. Click OK.

Repeat steps 3 through 7 until you have added all six ports: 8081 TCP, 8081, UDP, 8082 TCP, 8082 UDP, 8444 TCP, 8444 UDP.
