Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure browser that is required for some quizzes in Blackboard.

Secure Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is a special, secure web browser that is required for certain quizzes in Blackboard.

When you are using Respondus LockDown Browser, it "locks down" your computer screen, preventing you from seeing anything other than Blackboard. It also hides or forces you to close other applications.

Required for Some Blackboard Quizzes

Some quizzes in Blackboard require the use of Respondus LockDown Browser. When you attempt to take a quiz, you may see this message:

You must complete this assessment in the Respondus LockDown Browser.

This message is accompanied by instructions on how to download and install Respondus LockDown Browser.

Download and Install

You can download Respondus LockDown Browser from the University Computer Help Desk website. The software is available for Windows and Mac OS X.

Use Only For Required Blackboard Quizzes

You should ONLY use Respondus LockDown Browser for taking quizzes in Blackboard that require it. Do not use Respondus LockDown Browser for normal tasks in Blackboard and do not use it for normal web browsing.

Computer Labs

Respondus Lockdown Browser is available in all uLabs locations and most departmental labs. If Respondus LockDown Browser is not installed in the lab you are using, you will not be able to install or use it in that location. You must go to a lab where Respondus LockDown Browser is installed, or you can install it on your personal computer.
