Before You Begin

These instructions explain how to configure your Blackberry with MailVPN settings, which allow you to send and receive email without the need for an independent VPN connection.

Configure Blackberry for IMAP Email

The easiest way to set up your email account on your Blackberry is to use the Blackberry website provided by your service provider. To set up Blackberry with MailVPN settings, do the following:

1. Go to the Blackberry website hosted by your service provider. We recommend using a computer to visit the website, but you could use the web browser on your Blackberry device if you prefer. Links to popular service providers are shown below.

   • T-Mobile - http://www.t-mobile.com/bis/
   • Verizon - https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw
   • If your service provider is not listed here, please check with your service provider for a link to the appropriate Blackberry website.
2. Log in to the Blackberry website with your Blackberry user name and password.
3. Click the Set Up Account button.
4. Enter your email address in the Email address: box. Your email address is yourULID@ilstu.edu.
5. Make sure you leave the password boxes empty.
   
   • Important: You must leave the password boxes empty so that the Blackberry website gives you the option to manually configure your email settings.
6. Click Next.
7. Select I will provide the settings to add this email account.
8. Click Next.
9. Select This is my work email account.
10. Click Next.
11. Select I will provide the settings to add this email account.
12. Click Next.
13. Complete the form.
    
    • Enter your ULID in the User name: box.
    • Enter your password in the Password: box. (This is the password you use to log in to your @ilstu.edu email account.
    • Enter mailvpn.ilstu.edu in the Email server: box.
    • Enter your email address in the Email address: box. (This box may already be filled out.)
14. Click Next.
15. You will see the message, Processing...Please wait. It may take a few minutes for this stage to complete. During this time, you may receive little to no feedback. Please be patient and allow the process to complete.
16. You will receive the message, You have successfully configured access to: yourULID@ilstu.edu. Click OK.

Your Blackberry is now configured to send and receive email using your @ilstu.edu email account.

• It may take up to 20 minutes before you can receive email using this account on your Blackberry.
• You should be able to send email immediately.
