Map network drives to ITK shares in Windows XP/Vista/7
Follow these directions to map network drives to ITK network shares in Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
Before You Begin
The School of Information Technology (ITK) offers two network shares to its students and instructors:
- H: \\itksrv5\yourITKusername
Use your ITK H: drive to store files related to class projects. ITK students have read/write access to this network share.
- T: \\itksrv1\progs
The ITK T: drive stores class-related materials. Instructors have read/write access to this network share, and students have read-only access
Requirements
Only ITK students and instructors should access ITK network shares.
ITK user name: To access your ITK network shares, you must use your ITK user name and password. If you do not know your ITK user name or password, contact your ITK instructor.
Connection: To access ITK network shares, you must be connected to Illinois State in one of the following ways:
- ResNet connection
- Campus "isunet" wireless network
- Campus computer lab
- Campus office
- Off campus with a VPN connection (see below)
Off-campus users: To map network drives from off campus, you need to first establish a VPN connection using either the Cisco VPN Client or Network Connect in WebVPN.

Map Network Drives to ITK Network Shares
These instructions are for Windows XP and Windows Vista. To map network drives to an ITK network share, do the following:
- Do one of the following:
- Windows XP: Right-click on My Computer and select Map Network Drive....
- Windows Vista: Click Start and right-click on Computer. Select Map Network Drive....
- Windows 7: Click Start and right-click on Computer. Select Map Network Drive....
- The Map Network Drive window will appear.
- Select a drive letter from the Drive: drop-down menu. You are free to choose any drive letter you like.
- In the Folder: box, type one of the following network paths (based on the network share you would like to access).
\\itksrv5\yourITKusername\\itksrv1\progs
- Click on Connect using a different user name.
- Type your ITK user name in the User name box, as shown below.

- User name:
- Type your ITK password in the Password box.
- Click OK.
- Click Finish.
The network share will automatically open once it is successfully mapped to your computer.
You may also access mapped network drives by going to My Computer (in Windows XP) or Computer (in Windows Vista and Windows 7). You can use a network drive just as you would any other drive.
