Subscribing to iTunes U collections

By subscribing to collections in iTunes U, new content will be automatically downloaded for you when it becomes available.

Before You Begin

The information in this article applies to iTunes U collections, which can contain audio and video podcasts, as well as PDF documents. Subscribed collections appear in your iTunes U library.

Subscribe to Collections in iTunes U

To subscribe to podcasts or PDF files in iTunes U, do the following:

  1. Go to https://itunesu.ilstu.edu/.
  2. Click either Public Material or Reserved Material to access Illinois State podcasts and PDF files.
  3. To access Reserved Material, log in with your ULID and password.
  4. iTunes will automatically launch and open to the Illinois State University page.
  5. Click the name of a collection.
  6. Click the Subscribe Free button located below to the collection's album cover.
  7. iTunes will begin downloading the most recent item in the collection.

Collections to which you are subscribed appear in the iTunes U library. Click iTunes U on the left side of the iTunes window to view your subscribed collections.

When New Files Are Available

Each day, iTunes will check to see if new files are available for the collections to which you are subscribed.

  • If a new file is available, iTunes will download it automatically.
  • You can manually download older files in a podcast, as described below.

Download Older Files in a Collection

Only the most recent file is downloaded when you initially subscribe to a collection. To download older files in the collection, do the following:

  1. Within iTunes, click iTunes U on the left under LIBRARY.
  2. Click the arrow icon to the left of the collection name to expand its contents.
    • All files in this collection are displayed in a list.
    • Files you have not yet downloaded appear in light gray text.
    • Files you have already downloaded appear in black text and are flagged with a check mark.
  3. Click the Get button to start downloading a file.
  4. After the file finishes downloading, double-click its name to open it.
