Error: "The requested application was not found on this server"
You receive an error when attempt to download software from Apple's website.
Problem
You are unable to download iTunes, Quicktime, or Safari from Apple. The download link does not appear. Instead, you get the following error:
The requested application was not found on this server.
This error can occur on Windows and Mac. It can occur regardless of what browser you use.
Solution
This error can resolve itself after a period of time. Try again later.
Alternative: Use Software Update
Rather than downloading from Apple's website, you may be able to download the desired application through Apple Software Update.
Mac OS X includes Software Update by default. If you have Windows XP or Windows Vista, you might already have Apple Software Update if you have ever installed iTunes, Quicktime, Safari, or other Apple software.
To download Apple software through Software Update, do the following:
- Launch Software Update.
- In Windows XP, click Start > Programs > Apple Software Update.
- In Windows Vista, click Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update.
- In Mac OS X, click the Apple Menu and select Software Update....
- Software Update will automatically check for new software from Apple.
- You may not immediately see the desired software (iTunes, Quicktime, or Safari) in the list. You may need to install some updates, such as security updates, before the desired software will appear in the list.
- For example, if you want to download iTunes, it may not appear in the list the first time you run Software Update. You may need to install one or more software updates before iTunes will appear in the list.
- Click the Install button to install the selected items.
- After all items are installed, Software Update will automatically check for new Apple software again.
- Repeat these steps until the desired software appears in the list or there are no new updates to install.
