How to request a network guest account
Faculty and staff at Illinois State University can create network guest accounts for their visitors.
Network Guest Accounts for Visitors
A network guest account is used to access the "isu-guest" wireless network, which is available throughout campus. Faculty and staff can create network guest accounts for their visitors.
Network guest accounts can be created up to 14 days in advance. Network guest accounts are valid for up to seven days, but a new account can be created when the old one expires.
Requesting a Network Guest Account
Each visitor must make individual arrangements to have a network guest account created for his or her use. If you are a visitor who knows a faculty or staff member, you should contact that person to request a network guest account.
If you are a visitor who does not personally know a faculty or staff member, you cannot access the "isu-guest" wireless network. The only exception is that some conferences and events provide network guest accounts to their associates.
Those who are hosting or attending events at Illinois State may have "isu-guest" access depending on the services being offered through the event. To find out if "isu-guest" is available at a given event and for information on how to obtain a network guest account for wireless access for that event, contact the event coordinator.
Creating a Network Guest Account
Only faculty and staff members at Illinois State can create network guest accounts. Visitors cannot create network guest accounts for themselves. For step-by-step instructions on creating a network guest account, refer to 1410: Creating a network guest account for "isu-guest" wireless.
ISU-PUBLIC is an Alternative to ISU-GUEST
Visitors to the University can also access the "isu-public" wireless network, which is available in Milner Library. This open wireless network does not require a network guest account.
For legal reasons, as defined in the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), "isu-public" cannot be made available throughout campus. Milner Library is an exception to these legal restrictions. The "isu-guest" network was created to provide visitors with wireless access outside of Milner Library.
