How to use offline mode in Entourage 2004/2008

You can use offline mode in Entourage 2004/2008 when your computer is not connected to the Internet.

Before You Begin

You can perform the following actions to IMAP email while Entourage 2004 or Entourage 2008 is in offline mode:

  • Compose new messages.
  • Read and reply to messages you have already received.
  • Move messages from one IMAP folder to another.

Offline Mode in Entourage 2004/2008

To use offline mode in Entourage 2004/2008, do the following:

  1. If you are off campus, you may need a VPN connection (see below).
  2. Log in to Entourage.
  3. Click Entourage > Work Offline. A check mark will appear in front of Work Offline.
  4. You are now in offline mode. You may disconnect from the Internet.

When you are offline, messages you send are stored in your Outbox under On My Computer. The next time you use Entourage in online mode, click the Send/Receive button in Entourage 2008 or the Send & Receive button in Entourage 2004 to send messages in your Outbox that are waiting to be sent.

Online Mode in Entourage 2004/2008

To use online mode in Entourage 2004/2008, do the following:

  1. If you are off campus, you may need a VPN connection (see below).
  2. Log in to Entourage.
  3. Click Entourage > Work Offline. There will no longer be a check mark in front of the Work Offline option.
  4. You are now working online.

Off-campus users: To check and send email from off campus, you may need a VPN connection, depending on how Entourage is configured.

A VPN connection is unnecessary if you use Entourage with IMAP email and have configured it with MailVPN settings.

Otherwise, you must establish a VPN connection using either the Cisco VPN Client or Network Connect in WebVPN.
