Overview of alumni email
Alumni of Illinois State University can create an alumni email forwarding address.
What is an alumni email address?
Students who graduate from Illinois State University retain their ULID accounts for a limited time. Alumni who want to maintain a connection with the University beyond the defined grace period can create an alumni email address.
Your alumni email address will follow the format, something@alumni.ilstu.edu. When you create your alumni email address, you will be allowed to pick from a list of available alumni email addresses based on your name.
How does it work?
An alumni email address isn't a full-fledged email account. Instead, it is an email forwarding service. When you set up your alumni email address, you must specify a destination email address to which your alumni email is forwarded.
You can give out your alumni email address to friends, family, and colleagues. When email is sent to your alumni email address, it is forwarded on to the destination email address you specified.
How do I create an alumni email address?
Go to https://email.alumni.ilstu.edu to create your alumni email address. To create an alumni email address, you must have an Alumni ID.
Your Alumni ID is a string of 9 capital letters above your name on your alumni magazine label (or the label on most Alumni Association mailings).
How do I change where my alumni email is forwarded?
Go back to https://email.alumni.ilstu.edu to change your alumni email's destination address. You must use your Alumni ID to make this change.
How do I cancel my alumni email address?
Go back to https://email.alumni.ilstu.edu to cancel your alumni email address. You must use your Alumni ID to make this cancellation.
If you cancel your alumni email address, but then decide you want it back, you can create a new one. However, when you cancel your alumni email, your chosen address becomes available to other alumni and may get taken by someone else whose name is the same or similar to yours.
What if I have problems?
If you have problems logging in with your Alumni ID on the alumni email website at https://email.alumni.ilstu.edu, then you should contact the University Computer Help Desk at 309-438-4357 or helpdesk@ilstu.edu.
When you contact the Help Desk, please provide the following:
- Your Alumni ID
- Your full name
- A contact phone number where you can be reached
- A contact email address where you can be reached
The Help Desk will log your call as an Incident and will forward it to CISS SYSTEMS. The system administrators will take the information you provided (Alumni ID and full name), verify that you have alumni status with the University, and will grant you access to the alumni email website.
