Uninstalling P2P applications
Follow these instructions to remove peer-to-peer (P2P) applications from your computer.
Peer-to-peer (P2P) applications are often used to illegally download copyrighted materials, such as music, movies, and TV shows. If you use a P2P application in this way, you are engaging in copyright infringement. To avoid legal problems and university penalties, you should consider removing all P2P software from your computer.
To remove P2P software from your computer, refer to the instructions below.
Windows Vista
- Click Start > Control Panel.
- Click Uninstall a Program.
- Look through the list of applications to find the P2P file sharing software (i.e. KaZaA, BearShare, LimeWire, Ares, etc.) on your computer.
- Select the application and click the Uninstall/Change button.
Windows XP
- Click Start > Control Panel.
- Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- Look through the list of applications to find the P2P file sharing software (i.e. KaZaA, BearShare, LimeWire, Ares, etc.) on your computer.
- Select the application and click the Remove button.
Mac OS X
- Open your hard drive.
- Open the Applications folder.
- Look through the list of applications to find the P2P file sharing software (i.e. KaZaA, BearShare, LimeWire, Ares, etc.) on your computer.
- Drag the application to the trash.
