Error: "Failed to launch Network Connect" on Mac OS X

Launching the WebVPN Network Connect application on Mac OS X returns the error, "Failed to launch Network Connect."

Problem

When you try to establish a VPN connection using Network Connect in WebVPN, you receive the following error:

Failed to launch Network Connect

This error prevents you from using Network Connect.

Solution

This problem is caused by removing Network Connect from the Applications folder in Mac OS X, which may have been done in an attempt to uninstall it. Unlike most Mac applications, Network Connect has its own uninstall utility that must be used to correctly uninstall Network Connect.

To resolve the problem, contact the University Computer Help Desk by phone at 309-438-4357 or by email at helpdesk@ilstu.edu.

  • Ask the Help Desk to provide you with a copy of Network Connect for Mac so you can properly reinstall the application.
  • Please mention the "Failed to launch Network Connect" error when you make your request.
  • Also refer this knowledge base article (Knowledge Base Article #1377).

After you receive a copy of the Network Connect installer for Mac, you must reinstall Network Connect manually. Once installed, you can use Network Connect through WebVPN. Once Network Connect is installed you can launch it by logging in to WebVPN at https://webvpn.ilstu.edu.
