Network drives do not appear on the desktop in Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6

Unlike previous versions of Mac OS, Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 do not show mounted network drives on the desktop by default.

To force Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6 to show mounted network drives on the desktop, do the following:

  1. On the Finder menu bar, click Finder > Preferences....
  2. Place a check mark next to Connected servers.
  3. Close the Finder Preferences window.

Network shares to which you've connected will now show up on your desktop.
