How to make your calendar open by default in Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010

By default, when you launch Outlook it opens to your Inbox. You can configure Outlook so it opens to your calendar instead.

Before You Begin

By default, the Mail section is displayed when you open Outlook. If you prefer to see your calendar when Outlook opens, you can force it to display your calendar view instead.

Outlook 2010

To force Outlook 2010 to open your calendar as your default view, do the following:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click File in the top left corner of the window and then Options.
  3. Click Advanced on the left hand side of the window that appears.
  4. Under "Outlook start and exit" click Browse... and choose Calendar.
  5. Click OK and then OK again.

When you launch Outlook 2010 from now on it will open directly to your calendar.

Outlook 2007

To force Outlook 2007 to open your calendar as your default view, do the following:

  1. Right-click on your desktop and select New > Shortcut.
  2. Provide the location for the shortcut. The default installation paths for Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 are shown below.
    • Outlook 2007: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Outlook.exe" /select outlook:calendar
    • If you installed Outlook to a different location, specify that location instead (and add /select outlook:calendar to the end of the path, as shown in the examples above).
  3. Click Next.
  4. For the shortcut name, type Microsoft Outlook.
  5. Click Finish.

When you launch Outlook 2007 from this shortcut it will open directly to your calendar.
