Determining the version of Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac OS X

These instructions explain how to update Microsoft Office 2004 on Mac OS X.

Microsoft Office 2004 applications for Mac OS X do not reliably report their version numbers. For example, you may be running Microsoft Office 11.3.5, but Entourage reports it's version as 11.3.3 (by clicking Entourage > About Entourage).

To accurately determine the version of the Microsoft Office 2004 (and its applications), do the following:

  1. Open your hard drive and find Applications folder.
  2. Open the Applications folder.
  3. Open the Microsoft Office 2004 folder.
  4. Open the Office folder.
  5. Select Microsoft Component Plugin. (Figure 1)
  6. Click File > Get Info.
  7. The “Get Info” window will open and the version number will be displayed under General. This is the actual version of Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. (Figure 2)
