Sending attachments in Windows Mail

Follow these instructions to send email attachments in Windows Mail on Windows Vista.

Windows Mail in Windows Vista allows you to send files as email attachments. To send attachments in Windows Mail, do the following:

  1. Create a new message just as you normally would.
  2. To attach a file to your new email message, click the Attach icon (the little paper clip) and an Open window will appear.
  3. Browse to the location of the file you wish to attach to this email message.
  4. Once you have located the file, select it (by clicking on it once) and then click the Open button.

The file you selected has now been attached to your new email message.  You may attach more than one file to your email message by repeating steps 1 through 4.  When you send the email message, the attachment(s) will be sent along with it.

Attachment Size Limit: The total size of all attachments on a single email you send through the University's mail server cannot exceed 50MB.

Off-campus users: To check your email from off campus, you need to first establish a VPN connection using either the Cisco VPN Client or Network Connect in WebVPN. If you check email primarily from off campus, you can configure Windows Mail with MailVPN settings. This allows you to check and send email without the need for an independent VPN connection.
