FrameworkManifest.xml error when installing McAfee ePO

When installing McAfee ePO you may get the error: "Can't access path C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Application Data\Network Associates\Common Framework\FrameworkManifest.xml"

When installing McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), you receive the error, "Can't access path C:Documents and SettingsAll usersApplication DataNetwork AssociatesCommon FrameworkFrameworkManifest.xml." This error is usually caused by a corruption to the ePO framework manifest file.

To resolve this error, do the following:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Click Tools > Folder Options.
  3. Click the View tab.
  4. Under Advanced Settings, select Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types. (Figure 1)
  5. Click OK and close the Control Panel.
  6. Click Start > My Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Documents and Settings > All Users > Application Data.
  7. Depending on the version of McAfee VirusScan you have installed, you should see a folder named either McAfee or Network Associates. You may see both folders.
  8. Open either the McAfee folder or the Network Associates folder and look for another folder named Common Framework.
  9. Double-click Common Framework.
  10. Locate the file named FrameworkManifest.xml.
  11. Right-click on the FrameworkManifest.xml file and click Rename.
  12. Rename the file by adding .old to the end of the filename so it is named FrameworkManifest.xml.old.
  13. If you find more than one FrameworkManifest.xml file (for example, one FrameworkManifest.xml file in both ..McAfeeCommon Framework and ..Network AssociatesCommon Framework, rename each file to FrameworkManifest.xml.old.

You can now install McAfee ePO.
