InstallShield error -5009 when installing software

When installing an application, you may get the error: "An error -5009: 0x000000000 has occurred while running the setup."

When installing an application that uses InstallShield, you receive the error: "An error -5009: 0x000000000 has occurred while running the setup.  Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and close any applications." (Your error message may contain a different numeric value after the error code -5009.)

To resolve this error, do the following:

  1. Click Start > My Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Common Files > InstallShield
  2. Right-click on the InstallShield folder and select Rename.
  3. Rename the file by adding .old to the end of the folder name so it is named InstallShield.old.

After renaming this folder, you may install the application again.
