McAfee Virex 7.7 eUpdate fails on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5

eUpdate fails to complete in Virex 7.7 on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5. Install Patch 1 for Virex 7.7 to resolve this problem.

When you attempt to run eUpdate in Virex 7.7, you get the following error: An error occurred while installing the update. The eUpdate was not completed. To resolve this error, download and install Patch 1 for Virex 7.7.

Install Patch 1 for Virex 7.7

To download and install Patch 1 for Virex 7.7 on Mac OS X 10.4 or Mac OS X 10.5, do the following:

  1. Download Patch 1 from https://webftp.ilstu.edu/pub/helpdesk/mcafee/Patch1_for_Virex7.7.zip. (ULID and password required)
  2. Quit Virex if it is running. You can quit Virex by clicking Virex > Quit Virex.
  3. Locate and double-click on the file, Virex 7.7 Patch 1.
  4. Double-click Virex 7.7 Patch 1.pkg to begin installing Patch 1.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Patch 1.
  6. Restart your computer when prompted to do so.

After your computer restarts, run eUpdate in Virex 7.7, as described below.

Run eUpdate in Virex 7.7 with eUpdate

After the hot fix installer finishes, open Virex 7.7 and run eUpdate.

  1. Open Virex.
  2. Click the eUpdate button.
  3. Click the Start button.
