Configuring Entourage 2004 and Entourage 2008 with campus mail settings
Configure Entourage so you can use it to check email with your university email account. These instructions apply to your email account on the IMAP mail server.
Before You Begin
These instructions explain how to configure Entourage 2004 or Entourage 2008 with your ULID email account. Follow these instructions if you plan to use Entourage primarily from on campus (with the option of using it from off campus). These instructions use IMAP mail settings.
If you plan to use Entourage primarily from off campus (or as a mobile user who will roam between on campus and off campus), refer to 1361: Configuring Entourage 2004 and Entourage 2008 with MailVPN settings.
Faculty/Staff on Exchange: If you are faculty or staff and use Exchange for email, you cannot use Entourage because it is not supported for connecting to Exchange. Refer to 1759: Understanding options for connecting to Exchange on Mac OS X.
Configuring Entourage 2004/2008
To configure Entourage 2004 or Entourage 2008 for use with your ULID email account, do the following:
- Open Entourage.
- If this is the first time Entourage was opened, the Entourage Setup Assistant will automatically launch. Click the right arrow, and skip to step 4.
- Go to the Entourage menu and select Account Settings....
- Click New.
- If the setup assistant does not automatically open, click the Setup Assistant button.
- In the E-mail address: box, type your email address. Your email address is yourULID@ilstu.edu.
- Click the right arrow.
- You will receive a message stating, "Automatic Configuration Failed." This is normal.
- Click the right arrow.
- Type your name in the Your name: box.
- Type your email address in E-mail address: box.
- Type your ULID in the Account ID: box.
- Type your password in the Password box.
- We recommend you uncheck Save password in the Mac OS X Keychain so Entourage prompts you to enter your password each time you check mail.
- Type
mail.ilstu.eduin the Incoming mail server: box. - Select IMAP from the Incoming mail server type: drop-down list.
- Type
smtp.ilstu.eduin the Outgoing mail server: box. - Click the right arrow.
- Click the Verify My Settings button. After several moments, you will see the message, "Your account settings have been successfully verified." (If you are off campus, this step will fail unless you are connected with VPN.)
- Click the right arrow.
- Type your email address in the Account Name: box.
- Click Finish.
You may now use Entourage to check and send email.
Off-campus users: To check your email from off campus, you need to first establish a VPN connection using either the Cisco VPN Client or Network Connect in WebVPN. If you use Entourage from off campus exclusively, you can configure it with WebVPN settings, which eliminates the need for an independent VPN connection.
