Before You Begin

These instructions make use of the McAfee VirusScan/Virex uninstaller for Mac OS  X to remove the following:

• McAfee VirusScan 8.5 to 8.6.1
• McAfee Virex 7.2 to 7.7.

The uninstaller works on Mac OS X 10.0.3 or later.

Remove McAfee VirusScan or McAfee Virex

To uninstall McAfee VirusScan or McAfee Virex from Mac OS X, do the following:

1. Quit McAfee Virex or VirusScan if it is running.
   • To quit McAfee Virex, click Virex > Quit Virex.
   • To quit McAfee VirusScan, click VirusScan > Quit VirusScan.
2. Download the McAfee VirusScan/Virex Uninstaller.
3. Double-click the file named VirusScan Uninstall.command to launch the uninst
   • This file is contained in the .zip file you downloaded. If necessary, first double-click the .zip file you downloaded. Then double-click the file named VirusScan Uninstall.command.
   • Despite its name, this uninstaller not only removes McAfee VirusScan, but also McAfee Virex.
4. A Terminal window will open and ask for your password. Type the administrator password for your computer and press Return.
   • You will not see the cursor move as you type. This is normal.
5. When the uninstaller finishes, it will say, [Process completed].
6. Quit Terminal by clicking Terminal > Quit Terminal.
7. Restart your computer.

McAfee VirusScan or McAfee Virex has now been removed from Mac OS X.
