Error: -6001 when installing an application in Windows
If you get Error -6001 when installing a program, you need to rename the InstallShield folder on your computer.
When you attempt to install a program in Windows, the installer returns "Error -6001". This error occurs during the installation, and the installation does not complete. This problem occurs with installers created using InstallShield.
To resolve this issue, you must rename the InstallShield folder on your computer.
- In Windows XP, click Start > My Computer.
- In Windows Vista, click Start > Computer.
- Double-click Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Common Files.
- Locate the folder named "InstallShield".
- Right-click on the InstallShield folder and select Rename from the pop-up menu.
- Rename the folder
InstallShield-old.
After renaming the InstallShield folder, try installing the application again. The installer will create a new InstallShield folder, and you will no longer get Error -6001.
