Connecting with Cisco VPN Client for Windows
When you are off campus, some of Illinois State University's electronic services are unavailable to you unless you establish a VPN connection.
Before You Begin
Connect with the Cisco VPN client to access restricted electronic resources, like Datastore, from an off-campus location. It is not necessary to connect with VPN when you are on campus.
Before you can use it, you must download the Cisco VPN Client for Windows and install it. To learn how to connect with the Cisco VPN client, refer to the instructions below.
Connecting with Cisco VPN Client
To connect with the Cisco VPN client, do the following:
- Open the Cisco VPN client. Click Start > All Programs > Cisco Systems VPN Client > VPN Client
- Click the Connect button.
- Enter your ULID and password when prompted to do so.
- After a moment, an informational banner window will appear that typically says "Welcome to Illinois State University" but could display a different, informational message.
- Click Continue.
You are now connected with the Cisco VPN Client. A yellow, locked padlock icon is now in your system tray (in the lower-right corner of your desktop, next to the clock). This indicates that you are connected. An unlocked padlock icon indicates you are no longer connected through VPN.
Unlimited Timout
The VPN server will never disconnect you due to being idle (i.e. it has an unlimited timeout). If you are no longer using your VPN connection, you should disconnect. Reconnect when you need to access restricted resources from off campus again.
