Scanning your computer with McAfee VirusScan 8.7i

Use McAfee VirusScan to scan your computer for viruses and other malware.

Before You Begin

McAfee VirusScan is the university-approved anti-virus application. McAfee VirusScan is required on all computers that connect to the campus network. Use McAfee VirusScan to scan your computer to find and remove viruses and other malware.

There are several steps you should take when cleaning an infected computer. Before running McAfee VirusScan, we recommend you review all the steps involved. Refer to 1550: How to scan and clean an infected computer.

Download and Install McAfee VirusScan

To download and install McAfee VirusScan, do the following:

  1. Download McAfee VirusScan and install it.
  2. During the installation, you will be presented with the End User License Agreement. Click the license expiration period drop-down menu and select Perpetual.
  3. Complete the installation.

Scan Your Computer with McAfee VirusScan

Before you scan your computer with McAfee VirusSc, you should update it to make sure it can detect and recent viruses and other malware.

Update McAfee VirusScan

To update McAfee VirusScan, do the following:

  1. Open the McAfee VirusScan Console. Click Start > All Programs > McAfee > VirusScan Console.
  2. Right-click on AutoUpdate and choose Start.
  3. When the update finishes, close the VirusScan Console window.

After McAfee VirusScan has been updated, scan your computer.

Scan Your Computer

To scan your computer with McAfee VirusScan, do the following:

  1. Open McAfee VirusScan On-Demand Scan. Click Start > All Programs > McAfee > On-Demand Scan.
  2. Click Start to begin scanning your computer.

If McAfee VirusScan finds a virus or other malware, it will attempt to first clean the infected file. If it is unable to clean the infected file, it will try to delete it.
