Sending attachments in Thunderbird

Follow these instructions to send email attachments in Thunderbird.

Before You Begin

Thunderbird allows you to send files as email attachments.  This is useful if you need to send a file along with an email message.

Send Email Attachments in Thunderbird

To send email attachments in Thunderbird, do the following:

  1. Open Thunderbird
  2. Click the Write button to compose a new email message.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Click the Attach icon. An Attach File window will appear. Browse to the location of the file you wish to send, select it and click Open.
    • Locate the file you want to attach to the email and drag it into the right side of the new message window, above the message body. Drop the file into the Attachments: box that appears.
  4. The file has now been attached to your new email message.
  5. Repeat these steps to attach more files.

When you send the email message, the attachment(s) will be sent along with it.

Attachment Size Limit: The total size of all attachments on a single email you send through the University's mail server cannot exceed 50MB.

Off-campus users: If Thunderbird is configured with MailVPN settings, you can check and send email from both on campus and off campus. If Thunderbird is configured with typical mail settings, then you must connect to VPN before you can check or send email from off campus.
