Resetting the Keychain in Mac OS X 10.4 and Mac OS X 10.5

Follow these instructions to reset your Keychain in Mac OS X 10.4 or Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard).

Before You Begin

  • This procedure works with Mac OS X 10.4 and Mac OS X 10.5.
  • The Keychain does not store account passwords. If you need to reset your account or login password, see 1076: How to reset an account password in Mac OS X.
  • This procedure does not actually reset the Keychain password. It saves the old Keychain information and then creates a new, empty Keychain.

Resetting the Keychain

  1. Double-click Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities
  2. Open Keychain Access.
  3. Select Preferences from the Keychain Access menu.
  4. Within the General tab, click the button labeled Reset My Keychain (See Figure 1).
  5. A new empty Keychain is created.
