A list of common network drives

This is a list of common network paths and drive letters used to map network drives.

Before You Begin

This is a list of common network drives used by students and instructors at Illinois State University. Each of these network resources has a specific purpose, and you should only connect to them and use them if you have reason to do so.

You can access these shared resources from a computer on campus or from off campus with a VPN connection. Unless otherwise noted, you must provide your ULID and password to access these network shares.

The drive letter typically associated with the network share is listed below; a question mark (?) is displayed when there is no typical drive letter (any drive letter will work).

Mac OS X: When mapping network drives on Mac OS X, use the Mac OS X network path noted for each entry.

Off-campus users: To map network drives from off campus, you need to first establish a VPN connection. You can use either the Cisco VPN Client or Network Connect in WebVPN.

Network Shares

?:    \\datastore\yourULID (yourULID is your ULID)

  • Access: All ULID accounts
  • Purpose: Used to store personal files
  • Limits: 1GB shared quota between your personal share on Datastore and your STV250 share on Datastore
  • Windows: \\datastore\your ULID (yourULID is your ULID)
  • Mac OS X: smb://datastore.ilstu.edu/yourULID

?:    \\datastore\stv250

  • Access: Students and instructors in English classes in the STV250 computer lab
  • Purpose: Used for English assignments
  • Limits: Instructor Viewing Only folders can only be accessed by the appropriate instructor; students have a quota on their allotted space.
  • Windows: \\datastore\stv250
  • Mac OS X: smb://datastore.ilstu.edu/stv250

Q:   \\cobdata\pubprint

  • Access: College of Business students
  • Purpose: Provides additional storage space for College of Business students
  • Limits: 30MB quota
  • Windows: \\cobdata\pubprint
  • Mac OS X: smb://cobdata.ad.ilstu.edu/pubprint

U:   \\cobdata\dataset$

  • Access: College of Business students
  • Purpose: Used by instructors to make class-related materials available to students
  • Limits: Read-only access to files
  • Windows: \\cobdata\dataset$
  • Mac OS X: smb://cobdata.ad.ilstu.edu/dataset$

J:   \\europa\it317

  • Access: Technology students and instructors
  • Purpose: Used by instructors for student projects in animation and rendering
  • Limits: Access is restricted to Technology students who are enrolled in associated courses
  • Windows: \\europa\it317
  • Mac OS X: smb://europa/it317   

S:   \\europa\students

  • Access: Technology students and instructors
  • Purpose: Used by instructors to make class-related materials available to students
  • Limits: Read-only access to students (write access for certain class projects restricted to certain folders for students enrolled in particular courses)
  • Windows: \\europa\students
  • Mac OS X: smb://europa/students

I:   \\europa\yourULID (yourULID is your ULID)

  • Access: Technology students.
  • Purpose: Provides additional storage space for class related files
  • Limits: 900MB quota
  • Windows: \\europa\yourULID (yourULID is your ULID)
  • Mac OS X: smb://europa/yourULID (yourULID is your ULID)

T:   \\itksrv1\progs

  • Access: Information Technology students and instructors.
  • Purpose: Used by instructors to make class-related materials available to students
  • Limits: Read-only to students
  • Windows: \\itksrv1\progs
  • Mac OS X: smb://itksrv1.ad.ilstu.edu/progs

H:   \\itksrv5\username (username is your ITKNET user name)

  • Access: Information Technology students. 
  • Purpose: Storage space for class projects
  • Limits: Unknown quota
  • Windows: \\itksrv5\username (username is your ITKNET user name)
  • Mac OS X: smb://itksrv5.ad.ilstu.edu/username (username is your ITKNET user name)
