Sending email in Thunderbird
Send email from your university email account with Thunderbird.
To send email from your university email account using Thunderbird, do the following:
- Open Thunderbird.
- Click the Write button.
- In the To: field type the recipient's email address. To add multiple addresses, press Enter after each email address to go to the next line.
- Thunderbird will automatically fill in the From: field.
- You can change the To: field to other send types such as CC: and BCC:.
- The CC: field is used to send a Carbon Copy, a duplicate copy of your email, to another person.
- The BCC: field is used to send a Blind Carbon Copy, a duplicate copy of your email, to another person. This differs from CC: because the original recipient of the email is unaware that another person received the email.
- In the Subject: field, type a brief description of your email.
- Type your email message in the large, white box in the lower portion of the window.
- Click the Send button.
- If Thunderbird is configured with MailVPN settings, you will be prompted to enter your password before sending email.
Off-campus users: If Thunderbird is configured with MailVPN settings, you can check and send email from both on campus and off campus. If Thunderbird is configured with typical mail settings, then you must connect to VPN before you can check or send email from off campus.
